Bangor City Ladies v Pwllheli v Llandudno

Bangor City Ladies faced a tough weekend of two matches on consecutive days. Saturday saw Bangor head down to high flying Pwllheli. Bangor fielded a weak side against a very strong Pwllheli team and paid the price. Bangors 4 match winning streak ended fairly abruptly with a 5-0 defeat to Pwllheli. However, Sunday saw Bangor back up to full strength and played at home against Llandudno. Bangor certainly wanted to forget about the annihilation they suffered the previous day and so came out fighting strong. The Bangor midfield put on a great display of teamwork and had some great linking play. Ffion Robers had a storming match and linked up superbly with Rhian Culley on the right wing and soon put pressure on Llandudno’s defence. Ffion’s persistence soon paid dividends as after her strike on goal was saved by the keeper, Rhian Culley was straight in there to grab the deflection and get Bangor on the score sheet. Morale was high in the team after that and the whole team played some fantastic hockey. Bangor’s defence and their keeper were also put under pressure but dealt with the Llandudno attack well and kept calm. Claire Bennett was the next to add her name to score sheet and after being given lots of space to attack Llandudno’s defence, she fired a cracking shot into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance of saving it. Rhian Culley added Bangors third goal which came in the second half again after Bangor put into practice some slick pass and move drills that left Llandudno unable to stop the score from increasing. Bangor face Caernarfon next weekend in the last game of the year.
