Bangor City Ladies 4 – 1 Pwllheli Ladies
Bangor were hoping to amend from their loss against bottom of the league team Dysynni the previous weekend as they faced league leaders Pwllheli at home this Saturday.Bangor had a very strong team of 16 players available for the clash on Saturday and were fired up from the start to make it a great game, especially as the last time these two sides faced each other Bangor lost 7-0.
Bangor played a very different game of hockey from the previous encounter and remained calm when under pressure and played an excellent passing game, which made it very difficult for Pwllheli to defend. Bangor straight away put Pwllheli under pressure and were the dominating team with some great linking passages of play all the way from the defence through to the midfield who delivered quality passes to the formidable Bangor attackers of Ffion Roberts and Jodie Smith. It was Ffion Roberts who put her name on the score sheet first after a superb pass through the D by Rhian Culley. Judith Williams was on fine form on the right wing, with her speed helping her sail passed the Pwllheli defence time and time again. A crackjing cross from her also found Ffion’s stick for her to fire home her second of the game.
Half time saw Bangor with the upper hand and Captain Katie Williams encouraged her team to keep momentum high and continue playing the slick hockey which Bangor had done in the first half. Pwllheli came out strong in the second half but the Bangor defence dealt well with the attacks, again distributing the ball out to the midfield to launch a counter attack. This time another Judith Williams cross found the stick of new player Jodie Smith whose perfect positioning paid off with a neat goal from the far post straight to the back of the goal. Pwllheli managed to scrap one goal back after flooding the defensive D with players led them to sneak one passed on-form keeper Katie Williams. Bangor weren’t set on leaving it 3-1 and Ffion Roberts put another goal passed the Pwllheli keeper to claim her hat-trick and for Bangor to seal the victory at 4-1. Ffion Roberts was award the player’s player of the match with Katie Williams being nominated player of the match by the opposition.
